According to an article by the Hindustan Times, Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) would introduce drone technology as one of the topics in its revised syllabus for classes 9 to 12, which will be implemented from the current academic session (2023-24).

In another similar initiative, Bala Vidya Mandir School, in collaboration with Agni College of Technology, with the support of Garuda Aerospace Pvt. Ltd has introduced drone technology for students.

This initiative will enhance technical skills through the quality training program and integrate training in drone technology for students that will help them venture into various projects and research.

Benefits of Integrating Drones into Classroom Learning

Teaching students about drones involves introducing them to the various aspects of drone technology, such as their design, components, and the science behind their operation. Students will also learn about the multiple applications of drones, including surveillance, mapping, and delivery services.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, students might also have the opportunity to engage in practical activities involving drones. For example, they may learn to fly drones using simulators or drones in a controlled environment. Students may also learn to program drones to perform specific tasks, such as taking aerial photographs or collecting data.

The use of drones as a subject in schools can have numerous benefits, including:

  • The development of technical skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Foster creativity and innovation among students
  • Develop an interest in STEM fields
  • Prepare students for future careers in industries that utilize drone technology
