“For individuals with the necessary skills and expertise, India’s expanding drone sector provides a wide range of interesting job prospects. Individuals will have a new vertical to seek jobs and placement in this industry,” said Dr. Abhilasha Gaur, COO and Officiating CEO, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI).

To learn more about how the drone industry interfaces with Electronics, IT and Aviation sectors, job opportunities in the drone sector, the skill training opportunities, and more, we conversed with Dr. Abhilasha Gaur, COO and Officiating CEO, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI).

Below are some excerpts from the conversation. You can watch the full video interview on our YouTube channel.

Interface between Electronics and Drone Sector

Dr. Abhilasha Gaur stated, “I believe the momentum picked up after our Finance Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, launched “Drone Shakti” last year. Drones have proven to be the most cost-effective and efficient solution for a variety of commercial applications, including surveying, navigation, aerial photography, and land reform schemes like the agricultural SVAMITVA scheme. In the coming years, there will be a greater emphasis on drones, which will lead to an increase in the demand for experts with the skills to operate and maintain drones as well as new job opportunities in the drone industry.”

Job opportunities in the drone sector

Two job roles in the drone industry:

  • Drone Manufacturing and Assembling Technician
  • Drone Service Technician

A Drone Service Technician’s role can be an exciting and rewarding opportunity for people who are interested in working with this cutting-edge technology, and they’ll be able to assist companies and organizations in using drones to solve their problems. The candidates may be in charge of maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting drones in their capacity as Drone Service Technicians. In addition, they can assist customers with the use of various drone applications. Within 4 to 5 months, new high-level job roles will be launched through ESSCI.

Emerging drone industry in India

“These new high-level career roles will be available in drones within 4 to 5 months. In addition, I must mention that the Indian government is promoting and regulating drone use. When New Delhi hosted its first drone festival “Bharat Drone Mahotsav” back in May 2022, I recall our Prime Minister saying that he wanted everyone to be able to own drones in the future, just like how they have smartphones, cameras, and other devices. It is commendable that many rules are being eased for enrolling in drone flying courses or receiving aviation ministry affiliation. The growing drone industry in India offers a variety of exciting career opportunities for those with the right skills and experience. I believe individuals will have a new vertical to obtain jobs and placement in this industry,” said Dr. Abhilasha Gaur.
